Hot Springs Arkansas Bath House Row Weekend — Hot Springs, AR

Destination: Hot Springs, ARNights: 2Group: 48Season: March, April, October, NovemberEstimated: $800–$1,400 per person

An almost-vanished American spa town that rose in the 1880s on the back of natural 143°F mineral springs the Quapaw considered sacred. Hot Springs National Park's Bath House Row is the only city block in the country that's an entire national park unit. The bride's group books a 90-minute traditional bath at the Buckstaff (1912 — still running the original ceramic tubs, sitz baths, and Sitz baths and steam cabinets). Stay at the Arlington Resort Hotel, the 1875 grande dame where Al Capone famously took a top-floor suite for the season. Saturday afternoon at the Quapaw Bathhouse (more modern, four pools at four temperatures), then a long browse through the antique shops on Central Avenue. Saturday-night dinner at SQZBX Brewery & Pizza Joint. Sunday: a hike up Hot Springs Mountain Tower for the Ouachita view, brunch at The Pancake Shop. Decompression: a final soak at the Quapaw before the drive to Little Rock.

Questions

Bath house tradition still alive?
Two of the eight original bath houses on the Row still bath-house: the Buckstaff (traditional ceramic tubs, 1912) and the Quapaw (modern multi-temp pools). The other six are restored as visitor centers, art galleries, or hotels.
Why an entire city block as a national park?
Hot Springs Reservation was created in 1832 — predating Yellowstone — to protect the thermal springs from being developed over. It's the smallest unit in the National Park system but the only urban park district that's a federal unit.
Closest airport?
Little Rock (LIT), 60 min. Hot Springs Memorial (HOT) takes regional aircraft only.
