Lake Bled — Slovenia's fairytale alpine lake with the island church at its center, the bride's lower-cost-but-stunning alternative to Lake Como. Sleep at Vila Bled (former presidential residence of Tito, now a heritage hotel) or the Hotel Astoria. Day-one pletna boat to Bled Island (the traditional Slovenian gondola) + climb the 99 steps to the church. Day-two Vintgar Gorge hike (4 km wooden walkway through the gorge, €6 entry). Day three: a Bled cream cake at the Belvedere Café before the airport. Ljubljana (LJU) is 45 minutes south.

Best month?
May-September. June for waterfalls at full strength. September for fall colors + lower rates. Avoid July-August (peak crowds).
